While some factors are out of our control right now, there are ALWAYS actions we can take to combat feelings of anxiety or stress we may be feeling amidst the rapid changes happening within our society.

If you’re tired of reading motivational quotes on Instagram or watching hours upon hours of TikTok videos, here are seven self-care ideas that you can incorporate into your daily routine while you’re practicing social distancing.

Consider trying a few of these tips – or maybe all of them to get you feeling like your best self again. Let’s get to it!

Treat Yourself to a Home Spa Day

With the recent recommendations to self-isolate, nothing says “me time” better than a warm bubble bath, a couple of candles lit and a face mask.

Pro tip: if you don’t have one of those fancy sheet masks from Target, you can make your own facemask with ½ cup of hot water and 1/3 cup of oatmeal mixed together. After that, mix in two tablespoons plain yogurt, two tablespoons honey, and one small egg white. Then you have it! Apply a thin layer to your face and let sit for 10 to 15 minutes. Finally, rinse with warm water.

Take Some Time to Meditate

The great thing about Smart Phones is that you don’t have to be a yogi to meditate! With the click of a button, you can download apps like “Calm” and “Headspace” to give you step-by-step instructions through your practice. And the health benefits of meditation and yoga are unmatched. Go ahead and try these free sessions while you’re practicing social distancing.

Get Outside

Just a few minutes of fresh air can rejuvenate you. Give yourself a few minutes to clear your mind with some fresh air. Go for a walk down the block and maybe take your furry friend with you, too. They enjoy the fresh air just as much as you do!

Text a Friend

Even though we’re all practicing social distancing, that doesn’t mean you should stop conversation with friends and family. Pick up the phone and send your friend a text and see how they’re doing or give an elderly family member a phone call! Checking up on those who matter to you and letting them know how awesome they are will make you feel awesome too! Don’t forget to FaceTime, too!

Read Something

Whether it’s reading your favorite guilty pleasure magazine, geeking out on your favorite book series (where are all the Harry Potter fans at?), or perhaps reading this tastefully written blog, reading is proven to take your mind off of current situations and transport you to a place that is uniquely yours. Chances are if it’s something you truly enjoy, it will give you a burst of positive energy! So, read something!

Fuel Your Body

We know it’s too easy to binge out on chips and queso, especially when you’re not leaving the house, but now it’s just as important as ever to make sure you’re taking care of yourself and fueling your body with foods that help your health. We’re talking fruits and veggies! When your body feels good, your mindset will follow.

Think Positive

No matter how uncertain things may seem, we will get through this. Social events and sporting events will return in the future. Eventually, things will get back to normal and we will make it through these trying times. As always, remember to follow the rules of community leaders and the government and practice social distancing and good hand washing practices.

In the meantime, we hope this blog finds you focusing on staying healthy and radiating good vibes through these seven self-help tips! Remember the benefits of focusing on self-awareness and self-care to uplift your spirits in these times.
